La Bohème is passionately designed and manufactured with a conscious approach to the planet.
We value the importance of environmental responsibility, and this has been central to all our decision making, from design through to packaging and shipping. Whilst we know we are far from perfect, we continue to educate, challenge and drive to be better, and do better each day, to leave a better footprint on our earth.
Our makers
We have a personal relationship with the small, family run team of makers who produce our garments, and up until COVID, visited us in Australia each year. We consider them an extension of our team, and all members of our team are paid fairly and work in appropriate working conditions. We choose to invest in higher manufacturing costs to ensure people are paid for their skill, time, and craftsmanship.
The team is small, and our production process never rushed. This slow approach is considered and goes hand in hand with the timeless, trans-seasonal, high-quality garments we are known for.
Our fabrics
Our conscious approach is visible in our fabric selections. Our focus is always on natural materials, and our fabrics of choice are Linen, Rayon, Cotton and most recently Tencel, which is derived from wood pulp. Synthetics are never used.We produce in limited quantities and only a handful of collections a year, being always mindful to never over produce.
Our designs
Our design process is catered around a slow fashion approach.
We value timeless appeal in all of our designs, and aim for each La Bohème Girls piece to hang in your wardrobe for many years to come.
This is evident through our trans-seasonal and adaptable styling.
Our packaging
When it comes to our packaging choices, we use biodegradable and compostable packaging. We package our order in acid-free tissue paper and use 100% home compostable mailing satchels.
These can be thrown in at home with your food scraps or reused and resealed for your return orders or other use.
Our beautiful La Boheme Girls pieces are packaged in our 100% cotton drawstring bags, that can be repurposed and reused for so many things.
We use ours for shoes, fruits and veggies, storage or the perfect cosmetic bag.
We are also working hard to move away from air freight to reduce our carbon emissions and focus on sea freight logistics.
This is a new area for us to navigate but one we are working incredibly hard on behind the scenes to implement.
As a brand we continue to educate ourselves as we grow and push to always be better.
We are always seeking improvement and will continue to evolve in our journey.
We will continuously strive to build on our sustainability practices and invite all feedback from you in this area, so we can work better, to be better.
